Kanayama Kofun

Kanayama Kofun is an ancient burial mound made of two joined circular sections that form a distinctive shape. The site features a surrounding ditch and contained a stone chamber with two sarcophagi and various burial goods inside.

This burial site dates to when such mounds were built across Japan for high-ranking individuals. Scientific study in the mid-1900s revealed the internal chamber and helped scholars understand burial practices of that period.
