Kanayama Kofun, Ancient burial mound in Kanan, Japan.
The Kanayama Kofun consists of two connected circular mounds measuring 85.8 meters in length, with the southern section reaching a height of 9.4 meters.
Archaeological excavations in 1946 and 1993 uncovered a stone chamber containing two sarcophagi, along with artifacts including glass balls and silver rings.
The burial mound represents the funeral practices of Japanese elite society during the period between the third and seventh centuries.
Visitors can reach the site by taking the Kongo Bus to Seryutani stop from Tondabayashi Station on the Kintetsu Nagano Line.
The structure features a rare dumbbell shape formed by two joined circular tumuli, surrounded by a double moat averaging 1.4 meters in depth.
