Toimisaki Lighthouse, Maritime beacon on Cape Toi, Kushima, Japan.
The lighthouse is a white cylindrical structure standing 15.3 meters tall at an elevation of 255 meters above the Pacific Ocean along Kushima's southern coast. The building contains an observation deck that visitors can reach by climbing inside.
The navigation facility began operations on December 22, 1929, and became essential guidance for ships traveling along the Nichinan coast. The structure dates from a period when maritime navigation depended heavily on such coastal landmarks.
The lighthouse sits within Nikkankai National Park, where wild horses roam freely across the grassy hills that surround it.
You can reach the site by taking Prefectural Road 36 from Route 448, with fees charged for both entry and road access. The spot is best visited on clear days when visibility over the ocean is at its best.
This is the only climbable lighthouse in Kyushu, offering a 270-degree view of the Pacific Ocean from its observation platform. Visitors can see how the coastline stretches in both directions from this elevated vantage point.
