Snow Crystals Museum, Art museum in Asahikawa, Japan.
The Snow Crystals Museum was an art museum housed in a structure featuring Byzantine architecture and a castle-like appearance. Its interior spaces showcased metal snowflakes along a spiral staircase and a corridor decorated with ice columns.
The museum opened in 1991 within the Hokkaido Folk Arts and Crafts Village, becoming part of the region's cultural offerings. It closed permanently in 2020.
The museum displayed more than 200 illustrations of snow crystals alongside paintings depicting snow-related themes. The Music Hall, decorated with ceiling artwork, functioned as a venue for musical performances and cultural events.
The museum was located near national route 12 and was accessible by bus. Visitors should note that the facility is now permanently closed and no longer accessible.
The museum was founded based on research by a professor from Hokkaido University who spent his career studying snow. His scientific findings about snow crystals formed the foundation for the museum's collections and displays.
