Kurokawa Onsen, Sulfur hot spring village in Minamioguni, Japan

Kurokawa Onsen is a thermal spring village where wooden buildings and stone pathways wind through a river valley in mountainous terrain. The settlement features multiple bathhouses connected by small bridges and paved walkways that guide visitors through the layout.

The natural springs of Kurokawa have been used since the Edo period, when local leaders recognized their healing qualities. The settlement grew as people began visiting these waters for relief and wellness.

Visitors wear cotton yukata robes and wooden sandals while moving between bathhouses, a visible part of daily life in the village. This traditional dress becomes a natural part of the walking experience through the narrow pathways.

The Rotemburo Meguri pass provides access to multiple outdoor baths around the village for those wanting to explore several locations. Wear comfortable shoes since walking between the bathhouses involves uneven ground and hillside paths throughout the area.

Each of the 28 springs in the village contains different mineral compositions, allowing visitors to experience varying water properties. This means every bathhouse visit offers a different sensation based on its unique water chemistry and temperature.
