Sagimatsu Rail Yard is a large maintenance facility in Miyamae-ku where trains are stored, inspected, and serviced. The yard contains multiple tracks, an inspection center, and workshop areas where about 60 trains can be parked and maintained daily.
The yard was originally operated by the private railway company Tokyu before Tokyo Metro relocated its maintenance operations there. This shift allowed the Metro to service its trains outside the city while keeping urban facilities uncluttered.
The facility is not open to the public regularly and operates as an active workshop during business hours. Occasionally special events occur where you can view trains closely and learn how maintenance work is performed.
The yard serves two Tokyo Metro lines - the Hibiya Line and the Chiyoda Line - and is one of few places where you can see Metro trains being maintained in large numbers outside the city center. Its location in Kawasaki makes it a kind of outpost that relieves pressure on urban facilities.
