維新百年紀念公園, Memorial park in Yamaguchi, Japan.
維新百年紀念公園, also known as Ishin Memorial Park, is a sports and recreation park in Yamaguchi, Japan, built around a main stadium and several auxiliary fields for different sports. A children's area and a cultural center are also part of the grounds, making it a place used for both sports events and leisure.
The park's main stadium was built in 1963 for a national sports event, and the wider park complex was officially opened in 1973 to mark the centennial of the Meiji Restoration. The Meiji Restoration was the political shift in the 19th century that ended feudal rule in Japan and brought the country into the modern era.
The outdoor stage known as the Big Shell hosts concerts and theater performances that bring people from across the city together. Visitors can watch shows in an open-air setting that gives events a relaxed and communal feel.
The park is within walking distance of Yahara Station and easy to reach by public transit. Since the grounds cover several distinct areas, it helps to check in advance whether a sports event or performance is scheduled, as this can affect access to certain parts.
Since 2008, the park's name has also been an official postal address: the surrounding neighborhood was formally renamed Ishin Park as part of a new addressing system. This means the park is not just a place to visit but also an address where people live.
