Arai Bridge, Steel bridge in Kitamoto City, Japan
Arai Bridge is a steel structure spanning approximately 642 meters across the Arakawa River, connecting Kitamoto City with Yoshimi Town in Saitama Prefecture. The bridge carries traffic between the two communities on opposite riverbanks.
The original wooden structure was destroyed during Typhoon 17 in 1965, prompting the construction of the current steel bridge. This new bridge was completed in 1975 to replace the damaged crossing.
The riverbanks near the bridge transform into yellow fields of rapeseed flowers during spring, drawing photographers and nature lovers to the area. This seasonal display has become an important part of how locals and visitors experience the landscape each year.
Parking spaces are available along the riverbed for visitors exploring the area. The immediate vicinity lacks restroom facilities, so plan your visit accordingly.
From certain vantage points along the bridge, visitors can observe the rapid currents of the Arakawa River flowing beneath the steel structure. This natural display is especially intense after heavy rains or during snowmelt season.
