馬絹古墳

Makinukofu is a circular burial mound in Kawasaki measuring 33 meters across and rising 6 meters high, with stone-faced slopes and a surrounding moat 3.5 meters wide. Inside sits a complex stone chamber extending 9.6 meters long with three separate rooms designed for ceremonial purposes.

This tomb was built in the late 7th century and represents the burial practices of that era. The precisely cut stone construction demonstrates the architectural advances achieved during this period.

The burial chamber displays white clay decorative patterns on its walls that reflect connections to ancient tomb architecture from the Korean Peninsula. These design elements show the cultural exchanges that occurred between regions during this period.

The site can be reached by bus from Miyamaedaira Station, followed by a short walk from the Kanayama stop. The mound is freely accessible and visitable in any season.

The stone chamber was built from carefully cut mudstone blocks joined together with white clay bands. This construction technique features a distinctive detail: the ceiling narrows toward the top, showing a sophisticated architectural design.
