Kongō-ji

Inside Kongō-ji, the main hall displays sculptures of Dainichi Nyorai accompanied by two bodhisattvas, Fudō Myōō and Trailokyavijaya, dating from 1320.

Founded in 1173 by Taira no Shigemori, Kongō-ji became a significant religious center and was declared a National Historic Site of Japan in 1934.

The temple maintains five National Treasures, including Muromachi period folding screens depicting seasonal landscapes and ancient religious manuscripts from the Heian period.

The temple complex extends over 48 square meters, featuring multiple buildings with the main hall measuring 60 meters from east to west and 70 meters north to south.

The temple houses a collection of Engishiki documents, providing detailed information about Japanese laws, customs, and ceremonial procedures from the Heian period.
