夕森公園, Nature park in Nakatsugawa, Japan
Yushoku Park lies along the Kawakami River with five waterfalls, including the Ryujin Falls at approximately 12 meters high, surrounded by dense cypress groves. The park features several hiking trails through the forest and viewing platforms where visitors can see the water cascading through narrow gorges.
The park was established in 1960 when the former Kawakami Village sought to protect the riverside landscape and natural features. It later became part of the larger Ura-Kiso Prefectural Natural Park system managed by Gifu Prefecture.
The name comes from a dragon deity believed to inhabit the river gorge, and locals still honor this legend through small offerings left near the water. Visitors often stop to leave coins or prayers, making it a quiet place of reflection for many.
The park has over 100 bungalows available for overnight stays and allows fishing during warmer months. Guided walks can be arranged in advance, which helps visitors find the best trails and understand the river ecosystem more fully.
Starting in the 1980s, over 15,000 maple trees were planted throughout the park, creating a striking autumn display when leaves change color in November. This deliberate planting effort transformed the area into a major seasonal destination for fall leaf viewing.
