Rinnō-ji, Buddhist temple in Kama, Fukuoka, Japan

Rinnō-ji is a Buddhist temple in this area known for its Sanbutsudo main hall, which houses three gilded wooden Buddha statues. Each figure stands approximately eight meters tall and displays elaborate craftsmanship details that have been preserved over centuries.

The temple was founded in 766 and grew from a simple thatched structure into a major religious center. Its development was shaped significantly by support from the Tokugawa administration in later periods.

The three principal statues embody local mountain worship in this region, and visitors can see how each connects to different peaks. The arrangement and decoration of these figures show the deep spiritual connection between this place and the surrounding landscape.

The temple is easily reached by public transportation from nearby stations. Renovation work was completed in 2021, so the site is in good condition for visitors.

The Shoyo-en gardens, dating from the 17th century, form an integrated whole with the temple architecture. This harmonious design shows how natural and built elements come together to create a cohesive spiritual space.
