春光台公園, park in Japan
Shunkoutai Park is a large green space on gentle rolling hills with open fields, scattered trees, and diverse facilities spread across the area. It includes a woodland section called Citizens' Forest, adventure playgrounds, camping areas, walking paths, and an observation deck for native plant species.
The park developed after World War II when the city converted a former military training area into public green space. Local residents planted roughly 1,800 trees to create the woodland section, while the site also holds importance in the early history of skiing in Hokkaido.
Local residents come here on weekends and holidays to spend time with family and friends in the open spaces and play areas. The park has become a gathering place where people relax on the grass, have picnics, and take walks through the wooded sections.
The park is easily accessible by car with free parking and lies just over 20 minutes from the train station. Paths and facilities are designed to be accessible for visitors of all abilities, making it comfortable to explore the grounds.
The park is known for wild-growing flowering plants that bloom in late April and can be viewed from an accessible observation deck designed for wheelchair users. Visitors return each year to see these blooms flourishing along a 750-meter stretch near water.
