Rikuchu Kaigan National Park

The national park extends across 180 kilometers of Pacific Ocean shoreline between northern Miyagi Prefecture and northern Iwate Prefecture.

Established in 1955, the park transformed into Sanriku Fukko National Park in 2013 following the reconstruction efforts after the 2011 Tohoku earthquake.

The coastline shapes local traditions through fishing practices, maritime activities, and seasonal celebrations that connect communities to their natural environment.

Visitors can explore the park through designated hiking trails that lead to observation points of coastal rock formations and marine wildlife.

Kita Yamazaki features an 8-kilometer cliff rising 200 meters above sea level, forming geological structures known as the Alps of the Sea.
