The Taro Kanko Hotel structure stands with damage to its lower three floors while the upper levels maintain their structural frame following the 2011 tsunami.
The hotel, built in 1986, experienced devastating damage when tsunami waters reached the fourth floor during the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 2011.
The preserved building functions as an educational center where visitors learn about natural disasters through guided tours and video documentation of the tsunami.
Guided tours of the hotel require advance reservations and cost 4,000 yen per hour, with operating hours from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily.
Metal medallions in the parking lot mark the exact distance of 2.13 meters that the island of Honshu shifted during the earthquake.
