The Kamakura Daibutsu stands at 11.4 meters tall within the temple grounds, featuring intricate bronze craftsmanship and weighing 121 tons.
Cast in 1252, the bronze Buddha statue survived multiple natural disasters, including typhoons and a tsunami, leading to its current outdoor location since 1498.
The temple belongs to the Jodo Buddhist sect, which emphasizes liberation for all beings through the teachings of Amida Buddha.
Located seven minutes from Hase Station on the Enoshima Electric Railway, the temple welcomes visitors daily from 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM between April and September.
Visitors can explore the hollow interior of the bronze Buddha statue for an additional fee of 50 yen after paying the main entrance fee.
