Tokai University Marine Science Museum

Tokai University Marine Science Museum is a science museum in Shimizu-ku spread across two floors. The first level holds an aquarium displaying around 400 marine species, while the second floor features scientific exhibits about ocean research.

The museum was founded in 1970 by Tokai University's Social Education Center. It emerged from growing interest in ocean research and marine science education in Japan during that period.

The museum displays marine creatures from Suruga Bay organized by depth zones, helping visitors understand how the ocean changes from surface to floor. You can see how different species live together in their natural environments.

The exhibits flow easily between the two levels with clear signage throughout the displays. Plan to spend 1 to 2 hours to explore the tanks at your own pace and observe the marine life.

A central tank with freely swimming fish forms the museum's heart and reveals how many species coexist in a single space. This large tank shows better than separate displays how these creatures actually live together in the ocean.
