Hiroshima Red Cross Hospital & Atomic Bomb Survivors Hospital Memorial Park

The Hiroshima Red Cross Hospital Memorial Park is a memorial space next to the hospital that treated survivors after the atomic bombing. It contains exhibits with medical records and personal documents showing how the hospital cared for people with radiation injuries.

The hospital started in 1888 and quickly became the main treatment center for those injured in the 1945 bombing. The memorial park was later created to document this medical response and the long-term effects of radiation exposure.

The park displays personal belongings and accounts from survivors, showing how they lived through their experiences. Visitors can connect with these stories and understand what recovery looked like for ordinary people.

The park is walkable and has clear paths through the exhibits that work for visitors with various mobility needs. Plan to spend a few hours reading through the displays and learning from the informational panels.

The hospital building itself was one of the few structures that survived the bombing relatively intact and could immediately treat the injured. This structural durability allowed doctors to care for hundreds of people that same day.
