Myōkō-ji, Buddhist temple in Naka-ku, Japan.
The Myōkō-ji temple stands within the urban district of Naka-ku, featuring traditional Buddhist architecture and extensive temple grounds for spiritual practices.
Founded in 652 by Myōkō Bikuni, the temple underwent a transformation in 808 under monk Bentsu and maintained Tendai sect affiliation for 474 years.
Nichiren Daishonin's visit in 1282 marked a turning point for the temple, leading to its renaming as Renshosan Myokoji and adoption of new Buddhist teachings.
The temple maintains regular visiting hours and welcomes visitors through its main entrance, located within walking distance from nearby public transportation stations.
The temple houses a Kamakura period bell, recognized as a prefectural important cultural property, and serves as the guardian of Seya Hachifukujin Daikoku Sonten.
