Berrick Hall, Western-style heritage building in Yamatechō, Yokohama, Japan.
Berrick Hall is a Western-style residence in Yamatechō featuring Spanish and Art Deco architectural details. The building has two upper floors and a basement level, with interior spaces that visitors can walk through today.
The structure was designed in 1930 by architect Jay Hill Morgan and first served as a private residence for a British merchant. Later, it was converted into a dormitory for an international school.
The building shows how Western and Japanese design came together during Yokohama's early modern period. Visitors can see Spanish and Art Deco details throughout the rooms that reflect this cultural exchange.
The hall is open during daytime hours and sits a short walk from Motomachi-Chukagai Station. The interior spaces are fully accessible, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
Since 2002, the building has been used as a wedding venue, giving it a new role in contemporary life. Period furnishings and decorations blend this historical purpose with modern use.
