Tsukuriyama Kofun, Ancient burial mound in Yosano, Japan.
The Tsukuriyama Kofun cluster contains five distinct tumuli with different architectural styles, including keyhole-shaped, circular, and square formations at the base of Tango Peninsula.
Designated as a National Historic Site in 1930, the excavations in 1929 and 1989 revealed granite sarcophagi containing human remains and numerous bronze artifacts.
The burial mounds reflect the complex social hierarchy and funeral practices of ancient Japanese society during the middle 3rd to early 7th century period.
The archaeological site forms part of the Yosano Municipal Kofun Park, where visitors can examine multiple burial chambers and view recovered artifacts.
Archaeological examinations revealed that Tumulus No.5 contained a wooden coffin shaped like bamboo with multiple grave goods inside its burial chamber.
