TOTO GALLERY・MA, Architectural museum and art gallery in Minami-Aoyama, Japan
TOTO GALLERY・MA is an art museum and architectural space within the TOTO Nogizaka Building with three connected levels. The exhibition areas are linked by an outdoor courtyard of about 240 square meters, which serves as a central gathering point.
The space was founded in 1985 by five creative professionals, including architect Tadao Ando. Its creation was intended as a platform to present works by emerging and established architects to the public.
The name comes from 'ma-ai', a Japanese concept describing the spaces and moments between people and their surroundings. Visitors can experience this idea in how the rooms connect with each other and how people move through them.
The space is located just one minute from Nogizaka Station and is easy to reach. Entry is free and visitors may take photographs without flash, so you can capture your impressions easily.
The space houses a specialized library with bilingual catalogs from past exhibitions, offering visitors deeper insights into the works presented. At the same time, four major exhibitions are organized each year, ensuring constantly rotating selections of pieces.
