Umekōji-Kyōtonishi Station, Elevated railway station in Shimogyō-ku, Japan.
Umekōji-Kyōtonishi Station is an elevated railway station in Shimogyō-ku that serves the Sagano Line of the Sanin Main Line network. The facility features two side platforms with two tracks positioned above ground level.
The project emerged from a 2014 proposal by the Kyoto Chamber of Commerce and opened on March 16, 2019, following major construction work. The station was built to improve transport access to a developing area west of Kyoto.
The name combines Umekōji, referencing the nearby park, with Kyōtonishi meaning west Kyoto, reflecting the station's geographical position in the city.
The station sits about 1.7 kilometers (1 mi) west of Kyoto Station and is reachable on foot or by a short train ride from downtown. Trains depart four times per hour, with most connections heading to Kameoka and one route to Sonobe.
The station provides direct access to the Kyoto Railway Museum and Kyoto Aquarium, two venues that attract visitors exploring the region. This proximity makes it a convenient hub for those interested in both transportation history and marine life displays.
