Umekōji Park

Umekōji Park is an urban park west of Kyoto Station that sprawls across a large area with plum trees, a pond, walking paths, and sports fields. The space combines green areas with modern recreational facilities designed for diverse visitors.

The site was formerly industrial and railway land and was converted into a public recreation space in 1995. This transformation marked a turning point in the area's development west of the station.

The park blends Japanese garden design with contemporary recreational spaces where local events and community activities happen year-round. Visitors experience traditional horticultural practice alongside modern leisure activities in the same setting.

The park is easily accessible on foot or by public transport, with bus stops near the aquarium and railway museums. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended since the grounds are generously sized for exploration.

Inside the park sit the Kyoto Railway Museum with historic locomotives and the Kyoto Aquarium with specialized marine zones. These two institutions make the grounds a versatile destination for families with varied interests.
