万福寺, Buddhist temple in Setagaya, Japan
The Gotokuji temple complex features traditional Japanese architecture with a main hall constructed in 1677 within spacious grounds containing numerous statues.
The temple, originally named Kotoku-in in 1480, received its current name in 1659 to honor Ii Naotaka, the second lord of Hikone Domain.
The temple maintains strong connections to Zen Buddhism practices through the Soto school while serving as the final resting place for successive Ii clan lords.
Monthly memorial ceremonies take place on the 18th day in the Special Attack Kannon Hall, which contains two statues commemorating World War II military personnel.
Two Peace Kannon statues at the temple hold the names of 4,615 individuals who participated in special operations during the Pacific War.
