安楽寺

Anrakuji is a Buddhist temple in Komagane featuring scattered statues throughout a bamboo grove, a two-story pagoda, and a pond stocked with koi. The grounds include lodging facilities with tatami-floored rooms and a gatehouse for overnight guests.

The temple was established during the Heian period and relocated to its current location in the 16th century under the patronage of Hachisuka Iemasa. This move connected the temple to the regional power structures of that era.

The temple serves as a place where visitors can observe and participate in daily Buddhist rituals and traditional crafts. Morning prayers and handwork like indigo dyeing reflect how the community keeps these practices alive today.

Visitors can stay overnight in shukubo rooms with tatami floors and receive Buddhist vegetarian meals during their stay. The white Chinese-style gate and tsuyado gatehouse also offer free accommodation specifically for walking pilgrims.

The grounds feature an unusual white gate styled after Chinese architecture that marks the entrance to the temple areas. This distinctive architectural element stands out from the traditional Japanese design found elsewhere on the property.
