Komagane Highlands

The Komagane Highlands are an elevated plateau sitting at around 800 meters, where you can see across to the Kiso Mountains in the distance. Natural vegetation shifts noticeably with each season throughout the year.

The highlands have served as an agricultural hub for local communities since the Edo period. Traditional farming methods have remained largely unchanged over the centuries.

Local farmers have grown vegetables and fruits here for generations, supplying regional markets and eateries with seasonal produce. These farming practices shape how the landscape looks throughout the year.

Buses run regularly from Komagane Station to the highlands, with the ride taking about 30 minutes through mountain roads. Good pathways make it straightforward to explore different parts of the area.

The location between Komagane and Miyada creates a natural corridor where cool mountain air flows freely. This means temperatures here run roughly 5 degrees lower than in the surrounding areas.
