Mount Kumazawa

Mount Kumazawa is a summit in central Japan that rises to approximately 2,778 meters and features steep slopes with varied vegetation across its terrain. Multiple trails crisscross the mountain, offering different routes for climbers of varying experience levels.

For centuries, climbers and pilgrims have used established routes across this mountain to connect the communities of Komagane and Okuwa. The paths served as important passages for people traveling through the region since ancient times.

Local people practice traditional mountain worship here, and you can sense their deep connection to this natural landmark as you walk the paths. The routes show traces of this long relationship between the community and the peak.

Proper equipment and careful preparation are essential due to the challenging routes and steep terrain. The warmest months offer the best climbing conditions, though weather can change quickly in the mountains.

Rare alpine plants have adapted to survive at higher elevations and grow across the summit and slopes. From the peak, you can see neighboring mountains clearly, making it a good vantage point for viewing the surrounding range.
