Gounsa, Buddhist temple in Uiseong County, South Korea

Gounsa stands at the base of Mount Deungunsan, featuring traditional Korean architectural elements with wooden halls, gates, and stone structures across its grounds.

Founded in 681 CE by monk Uisang-daesa, the temple underwent multiple reconstructions, including major restorations after surviving the Seven Year War in the 16th century.

The temple maintains its role as a headquarters for the Jogye Order, managing sixty branch temples and preserving Buddhist traditions through ceremonies and educational programs.

The temple complex includes meditation halls, sleeping quarters, and educational facilities, allowing visitors to participate in religious ceremonies and cultural programs.

A stream flows beneath the wooden columns of Gaun-ru Pavilion, which functions as a study area within the temple grounds.
