Hongyureung

Hongyureung is a royal burial complex in Namyangju featuring stone structures, memorial buildings, and ceremonial grounds laid out following traditional Korean architectural methods. The site contains multiple tomb areas and demonstrates careful planning typical of royal burial grounds.

The site was established during a period of major change in Korea in the late 19th century, when the country faced modern influences and political upheaval. It holds the tombs of emperors and empresses from this crucial moment in Korean history.
