Mireuksan is a mountain in the coastal city of Tongyeong, South Gyeongsang Province, South Korea. Its slopes are mostly forested, with some rocky sections, and a marked trail leads to a small stone stele at the summit.
Mireuksan has long been tied to Buddhist practice in the Tongyeong region, with temples established on its slopes centuries ago. These sites have remained active places of worship through the years, shaping the mountain's identity as more than just a natural landmark.
The name Mireuksan means "Mountain of Mireuk," referring to a future Buddha figure in Korean Buddhism. A small temple tucked into the forest near the summit reflects this tradition, and visitors sometimes stop there to light a candle or simply sit in the shade.
The walk to the summit takes roughly an hour depending on the trail chosen, and some sections are uneven, so sturdy shoes are a good idea. Early morning or late afternoon visits tend to be quieter than midday.
A cable car runs to near the top of Mireuksan, meaning visitors who prefer not to hike can still reach the summit area. This makes the mountain one of the more accessible peaks along this stretch of the South Korean coast.
