Seokguram Grotto and Bulguksa Temple

The Seokguram Grotto contains a white granite Buddha statue surrounded by twelve disciples and two bodhisattvas within a precisely engineered dome structure.

Built in 751 CE during the Silla Dynasty, Bulguksa Temple underwent complete reconstruction after destruction during the Japanese invasions of 1593.

The temple complex represents Korean Buddhist architecture through its stone pagodas, wooden halls, and granite bridges that demonstrate religious and artistic principles.

Visitors can reach both sites via public transportation from Gyeongju, with the grotto requiring an additional uphill walk from the temple location.

The grotto's construction involved over 360 granite blocks assembled without mortar, maintaining a precision ratio of 1:10000 in its architectural calculations.
