Matey Qoqanuly mosque

Matey Qoqanuly Mosque is an Islamic place of worship in Astana with a large central dome and four minarets at the corners. The building complex can hold up to 235,000 worshippers and combines modern construction with traditional Islamic architectural design.

Construction of this religious structure began in 2019 and finished in 2022, marking an important addition to Central Asian Islamic architecture. The rapid completion of this large project reflects the growing role of faith in modern Kazakhstani society.

The building displays traditional Kazakh patterns on its wooden doors and features illuminated inscriptions of the 99 names of Allah on the qibla wall. These design elements show how the space blends Islamic faith with local artistic traditions that visitors can observe throughout the interior.
