Pakalniškiai Hillfort

The Pakalniškiai Hillfort is an archaeological site near Kaunas Reservoir where remains of an ancient fortification can still be seen. The elevated ground offers views across the water and industrial areas beyond, with preserved earthwork structures marking the original fortification's outline.

Ancient Baltic peoples built a wooden fortification here centuries ago to defend a strategic location overlooking the Nemunas Valley. The site later became important as a power center before eventually being abandoned and left to nature.

Visitors can see the remains of defenses that reveal how Baltic peoples protected their settlements in this region. The earthwork structures visible today give a sense of daily life and security concerns from centuries ago.
