Bonaventura Manor

Bonaventura Manor is a manor house situated within a landscaped park on the outskirts of Riga near the Latvian Ethnographic Open Air Museum. The property consists of multiple buildings and grounds that preserve the appearance of a prosperous suburban estate from the early modern period.

The manor arose in the late 18th century when Riga experienced rapid expansion and wealthy citizens built summer residences in the surrounding areas. Parts of the complex were later relocated to the Latvian Ethnographic Open Air Museum for preservation, while other buildings continue to serve practical functions today.

The manor represents the taste of wealthy Riga merchants who built suburban estates to display their prosperity and standing in society. These villa complexes served not only as residences but also as places to receive family and guests while demonstrating their achieved position.

Local artisans and food producers gather in the park on summer Saturdays to sell handmade crafts, honey, baked goods, and regional products. The location is easy to visit and explore, especially if you plan to see the neighboring open-air museum as well.

Individual sections of the original complex were moved to the Latvian Ethnographic Open Air Museum, where they now stand as separate exhibition pieces. This makes Bonaventura exist between two worlds - partly preserved on site, partly fragmented in the neighboring museum.
