Tangier Exportation Free Zone, Economic development zone in Tangier, Morocco.
The Tangier Exportation Free Zone is an industrial area located south of Tangier, Morocco, dedicated to manufacturing and logistics for export. It is organized into clearly separated operational sectors with warehouses, production buildings, and internal roads connecting them.
The zone was established in the 1990s as a way to open northern Morocco to foreign investment and connect the region to global trade routes. Over the years it attracted companies from the car parts and textile sectors, which shaped what the area looks like today.
Moroccan workers in this zone work alongside teams from many different countries, which shapes the daily rhythm inside the facilities. The mix of languages and working styles is something a visitor notices right away when walking through the area.
The area is in full operation throughout the day, with heavy vehicle traffic on internal roads, so visitors should move carefully. Access to individual companies generally requires prior contact, since most facilities are not open to the public without an appointment.
This zone was one of the first of its kind in Morocco and served as a direct model for later industrial projects in the country, including the Tanger Med corridor. A visitor who looks closely will find companies from more than 20 countries operating side by side on the same grounds.
