Art Bridge, Pedestrian bridge in central Skopje, North Macedonia
The Art Bridge is a footbridge over the Vardar River with a total of 29 artworks made from metal, glass, and stone. These works are placed along railings and on the walking surface, creating a continuous artistic path.
It was completed in 2014 and was part of a larger project to redesign the city. This project was an ambitious effort to change the appearance of the downtown area.
The bridge displays names and stories of people who played important roles in local culture and the arts. These representations give you a sense of who mattered to the city and nation.
It connects Macedonian Square with the Old Bazaar and is an important route between these two areas. The walkway is wide enough for comfortable walking and foot traffic here is normal.
The artworks were created by local artists and use motifs from national history and tradition. You will discover symbols of the Cyrillic script and depictions of traditional clothing as you cross the bridge.
