Yangon City Hall, Administrative building in downtown Yangon, Myanmar.
Yangon City Hall is a four-story administrative building located in downtown Yangon on Maha Bandula Road. It features traditional tiered roofs in the pyatthat style with green peacock decorations above the main entrance.
The building was constructed between 1926 and 1936 under the direction of Burmese architect U Tin. It replaced the former Ripon Hall on the same site during the British colonial period.
The building blends Burmese architectural elements with British colonial influences, visible in its ornate columns and traditional artistic patterns. This mix shapes how the space looks today and shows how two different design traditions came together in one place.
The building sits next to Maha Bandula Park and Sule Pagoda, making it easy to find in the city center. The location puts it within walking distance of other major landmarks and public spaces.
The building was the site of a major political demonstration in 1964 when about 200,000 people gathered there. This gathering remains a notable moment in the city's modern history.
