Bogyoke Market, British colonial market building in downtown Yangon, Myanmar.
Bogyoke Market is a two-story market building in downtown Yangon with four wings housing over 2000 shops. The vendors sell jewelry, textiles, handicrafts, and traditional food items throughout the different sections.
The building was founded in 1926 as Scott Market, named after Municipal Commissioner C. Scott. In 1948, it received its current name to honor General Aung San.
Craftspeople inside sell handmade lacquerware, woven textiles, and gemstone jewelry that reflect the artistic traditions of Myanmar. These items show how local artisans continue to practice skills passed down through their families.
The building is open daily from 9 AM to 5 PM but closes on Mondays and public holidays. Currency exchange services are available inside if you need to change money.
Every April an annual pre-Thingyan festival takes place where merchants distribute traditional foods like Monte Lone Yay Paw and Thargu to visitors. This celebration marks the beginning of an important festival season in local culture.
