Kharkhorin Rock, Stone sculpture near Erdene Zuu Monastery, Mongolia

The phallic-shaped stone monument stands 24 inches tall, enclosed by a protective fence in the Övörkhangai Province of central Mongolia.

The stone dates from an era when Buddhist monasteries regulated the behavior of monks through physical symbols and deterrents in the 16th century.

Local women visit this stone sculpture seeking fertility blessings, creating a combination of Buddhist and traditional Mongolian spiritual practices.

The monument sits along a marked path near the main road connecting to Ulaanbaatar, making it accessible for visitors exploring the Erdene Zuu complex.

Two separate stone structures exist: the original smaller version within the monastery grounds and a larger modern reproduction visible from the main road.
