Katsina

Katsina is a city serving as the administrative center of Katsina State in northern Nigeria. The urban area contains neighborhoods with older compounds, market districts, and sections with newer construction.

The city formed around 1100 CE and grew into a major Hausa city-state over centuries. British colonial rule took control in 1903 and restructured local governance and administration.

The Emir's Palace shapes the city center and reflects how Hausa-Fulani communities organize their leadership and public life. Walking through town, you notice how this institution remains central to local decision-making and social gatherings.

The city has active markets where you can find local produce and crafted goods. Visiting during early morning hours gives you the best experience, as most vendors are present and the heat is less intense.

A teachers college was established here in the 1950s, transforming education in northern Nigeria. This school trained educators who went on to build classrooms and schools across the wider region.
