Kusugu

Kusugu is an ancient well set deep into the ground with a sturdy stone structure built up through generations. The site features traditional water-drawing methods using rope and bucket systems that continue to function today.

The well originated in the early founding period of the city and became linked to the legend of Bayajidda. It has remained a physical reminder of that distant past for more than 1000 years.

The well is deeply connected to the founding story of Daura in local memory. People here view it as a symbol of the city's origins and identity.

The site is reachable from Daura city center by local transportation, and guides are available to show around and explain how the well works. Visiting in the morning offers the best chance to see water-drawing activities.

An old legend tells that a creature called Sarki once blocked access to water until a hero freed the city from this curse. Visitors are often surprised to learn how central this tale remains to how locals understand their city's beginning.
