Anam is a town in Anambra State situated between three rivers - the Anambra, Niger, and Ezichi - in southeastern Nigeria. The land here supports farming as the primary livelihood for residents.
During the colonial period, the area developed as a trading center and faced external threats. The community repelled invasions by using local waterways and boats in strategic ways.
The eight villages here practice traditional ceremonies featuring masked performers and prepare a special catfish soup during local festivals.
The area is focused on farming, with fields of yams, cassava, rice, and corn visible throughout. Visit during the dry season when roads are more accessible and farm activities are easier to observe.
The community splits into two distinct halves: Ivite Anam with four villages in the north and Ezi Anam with four villages in the south. This division continues to shape local identity and decision-making today.
