Jesus de Greatest, Marble statue in Nwangele, Nigeria.
Jesus de Greatest is a marble statue on the grounds of St. Aloysius Catholic Church that depicts Jesus Christ with open arms in a welcoming gesture. The sculpture stands approximately 8.5 meters tall and is carved from white marble on a permanent foundation.
The statue was commissioned in 2013 and took two years to complete, with its inauguration occurring in 2015. The marble was sourced internationally and assembled at the site by craftsmen from overseas.
The statue represents an important site for Catholic worship and spiritual reflection in the region. Pilgrims from nearby communities gather here to pray and participate in religious ceremonies throughout the year.
The statue is located on church grounds and is easily accessible on foot for visitors exploring the area. Morning hours or late afternoon are ideal times to visit, as the light conditions work well for viewing and photography.
The idea for this statue originated from a personal vision that the commissioner experienced, which he decided to make real years later. This project therefore combines a private spiritual experience with a public artistic creation.
