National War Museum, Umuahia, Military museum in Umuahia, Nigeria.
The National War Museum is a military museum in Umuahia with three permanent exhibition galleries and an outdoor area displaying equipment from the army, navy, and air force. The collections are housed in separate pavilions dedicated to each branch of service.
The museum opened in 1985 after Lieutenant General Theophilous Danjuma visited Yugoslavia in 1977 and began planning for the institution. This visit became the catalyst for creating the museum.
The Traditional Warfare Gallery displays handcrafted weapons used across different Nigerian regions over many generations. This collection shows how various ethnic groups developed their own military practices and customs.
The museum sits in Ebite Amafor within the Isingwu Autonomous Community and is well organized with separate areas for each exhibition. Visitors should allow time to walk through all pavilions and explore the outdoor displays.
The site marks the former location of Voice of Biafra's bunker, with exhibits including modified vehicles like the Biafran Red Devil tank. This restored vehicle offers a physical reminder of the region's wartime past.
