Dintelse Gorzen

Dintelse Gorzen is a nature reserve in Steenbergen featuring wetlands, grasslands, and open plains that border water channels. The terrain supports diverse habitats for birds, plants, and wildlife throughout the seasons.

The Philipsdam was built in 1987, transforming the area from a tidal zone into a freshwater ecosystem. This fundamental change shaped how the landscape developed and what lives here today.

The nature reserve serves as an educational center where visitors learn about environmental conservation and local ecosystem management techniques.

Two walking routes of varying length begin from the parking area at Vlietdijk and lead through different parts of the reserve. Bird observation huts are positioned along the paths to help visitors watch wildlife without causing disturbance.

Scottish Highland cattle graze here to maintain the grasslands naturally through their feeding habits. In June, thousands of orchids bloom across the fields, transforming the landscape into a colorful display that changes with the seasons.
