Karachi Port Trust Building

Karachi Port Trust Building, Colonial administrative building in Kharadar, Pakistan.

Karachi Port Trust Building is a colonial administrative structure with a symmetrical design, yellow stone facade from Jaipur, and a central dome in Roman style. Two large anchors flank the main entrance, emphasizing its connection to the port.

The structure was designed by architect George Wittet and built between 1912 and 1916, representing a significant expansion of port infrastructure at that time. Port administration had been keeping records at this location since 1893.

The building displays British, Hindu, and Gothic architectural styles, reflecting the diverse influences that shaped maritime administration in Karachi during the early 20th century. This blend of different design traditions remains visible today and continues to define the character of the place.

The building is located on Muhammad Ali Jinnah Road near Native Jetty Bridge and is relatively easy to find in that area. Keep in mind it functions as an active administrative center, so access may be limited to certain areas or times.

During World War I, the building was converted into a military hospital with around 500 beds and served patients until May 1919. This transformation demonstrates how the structure was adapted for emergency use during times of crisis.
