Wazir Mansion, Historical residence in Kharadar, Pakistan
Wazir Mansion is a three-story stone house in the Kharadar neighborhood of Karachi, built with lime and jute mortar. The construction follows traditional building methods and uses thick walls and high ceilings to allow cooling in hot weather.
The residence was completed in the late 19th century and served as rental accommodation for several families. On December 25, 1876, Muhammad Ali Jinnah was born here, who later led the independence of Pakistan from British India.
The building takes its name from an Indian administrative official and now serves as a memorial site that guides visitors through rooms with preserved furniture and personal belongings. The display areas present garments and photographs, while a separate section preserves handwritten documents and correspondence.
The museum opens six days per week and remains closed on Mondays, with opening hours starting in the morning and ending in the afternoon. Visitors should wear light clothing, as temperatures in the upper floors can rise during summer months.
A reading corner on the upper floor collects around 5,000 books, including legal volumes from the time of Jinnah's law practice. This collection offers insight into the intellectual interests of the founder, who studied British law during his years in London.
