Dom Rybaka, Socialist realist house in Władysławowo, Poland.
Dom Rybaka is a socialist realist building with a tall observation tower offering views of the Baltic Sea, Hel Peninsula, and Puck Bay. The complex also houses administrative offices, medical clinics, and a library.
The building was constructed between 1953 and 1957 and initially served as a hotel for fishermen during Poland's post-war period of socialist development. This era shaped the building's architecture and original purpose.
The ground floor displays works of Kashubian artisans, including sculptures by Leon Golla and historical photographs showing how the town changed over time. These exhibitions reflect the artistic traditions of this coastal region.
To reach the lower observation platform, visitors must climb 171 steps, while the upper platform called Kula requires an additional 93 steps. The climb takes effort but rewards you with expansive views of the surroundings.
The building was originally designed as a fisherman's hotel but today its observation tower functions almost like a lighthouse for the town. This blend of old purpose and new use gives it a kind of dual identity.
