Maria Konopnicka Monument in Warsaw, Bronze statue in Saxon Garden, Warsaw, Poland

The Maria Konopnicka Monument in Saxon Garden features a bronze figure seated on a pedestal of syenite stone, created by sculptor Stanislaw Kulon. The base carries inscriptions with information about the dedication, unveiling date, and those who contributed to its creation.

The monument was unveiled in 1966 and resulted from an initiative by students at Primary School 11 in Kalisz. The students gathered public donations to fund and realize this project.

The monument honors Maria Konopnicka, a writer whose works addressed social issues and children's stories that shaped how many Poles understand justice and education. Her books remain connected to Polish identity and values.

The monument stands in the northwestern section of Saxon Garden and is easy to reach on foot from the main entrance. Visit on a clear day to read the inscriptions on the pedestal comfortably.

The monument was created through a grassroots effort by schoolchildren, showing how deeply Konopnicka's work was valued for young readers. Community fundraising like this was unusual for such projects at the time.
