Hydropolis, Science museum in Wrocław, Poland.
Hydropolis is a science museum dedicated to water located in Wrocław, housed within a converted 19th-century underground reservoir that once supplied the city's water system. The building contains seven themed zones with approximately 70 hands-on exhibits and multimedia installations that explore water's physical properties, chemical behavior, and environmental role.
The museum opened in 2015 and occupies a building originally constructed as an underground water storage facility for Wrocław's municipal system in the 19th century. Converting this historic infrastructure structure into a public education space connected the city's industrial past with contemporary science communication.
The exhibition includes a detailed replica of the Bathyscaphe Trieste vessel, which made history by reaching the deepest point of the Mariana Trench.
A mobile app with audio guides and augmented reality features is available in multiple languages for both Android and iOS devices to enhance your visit. Being located underground means the temperature stays constant, though natural light is minimal, which makes for comfortable exploration over extended periods.
Upon entering the building, visitors encounter a snow simulator that generates actual snowfall conditions alongside a water printer creating patterns on display. These unexpected sensory experiences greet visitors immediately, setting the tone for hands-on learning throughout the exhibition.
